Curriculum

Kanata Academy offers programs designed to challenge, yet not overwhelm, each student. Recognizing each student's needs is a primary goal of the school.
Mathematics
At the
kindergarten level, math concepts are developed through calendar activities,
manipulatives and games. At the grade level, students work
at their own pace. They are given the opportunity to reach ahead and strive
towards their full potential.
Language Arts
A combination of techniques is used to teach the children to read, allowing them to advance individually and meet specific needs. The student is exposed to a wide variety of reading materials including poetry, choral reading, fiction and non-fiction. As the child progresses, deeper studies of the reading materials are pursued. Discussion, oral expression, sequencing and auditory listening are also main components of the curriculum.
Arts, Drama and Music
With the aid of a
variety of musical instruments, along with art and drama activities, each child
is encouraged to develop self-expression and creativity in group situations.
This also provides an opportunity to develop an appreciation for the arts. Guest
speakers and excursions are an integral part of the program.
Social Studies and Science & Technology
Children learn about
the environment through field trips, audio-visual material, and scientific
experiments. They are encouraged to relate their knowledge to real-life
situations.
